When I first met jewelry designer and owner of Amalia Designs, Andrea Slappey, at a mutual friend’s wedding, I just had to have the necklace she was wearing, so I asked her to make me one. Her collection is exquisite, and we’re delighted to bring it to you. Many of the lovely pieces are first conceived for specific individuals—like the seaside necklace created for a friend’s 50th birthday and the “XO” ring which symbolizes “wholeness” and “partnership” among her family. She’s even designed a “traveler’s necklace” for us, featuring interchangeable stones and a mechanism for making it shorter or longer, the ideal multi-use travel accessory. This lariat necklace is a sterling silver oxidized and textured cable chain with interchangeable gems. The three sets of enclosed gemstones - labradorite, purple amethyst and chrysoprase – have intricate, twisted hooks, allowing them to hang delicately at each end of the necklace. 36" long.

The sophisticated aesthetic of Amalia Designs is greatly influenced by the unique sensibilities and personal experiences of principal designer, Andrea Slappey—especially the people, places and things she remembers from childhood. She views jewelry as a keepsake that connects generations and still retains pieces given to her by her own parents or those passed down from other relatives. With a background in art history, psychology, religion, spirituality, sculpture and metalsmithing, Slappey finds crafting her creations to be an inspired process, and her work often expresses subtle symbolism motivated by her surroundings and the materials at hand. In addition to her artistic endeavors, she is proud to donate her time to training individuals to be caregivers through the Stephen Ministry in Atlanta.
