These beautiful baskets from Rwanda make wonderful accents for your home, and we’re delighted to showcase them as well as support women business owners who are empowering themselves through commerce. Betty Habimana, whose shop in Rwanda makes the baskets, is a success story, having worked with the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women (IEWW) and participated in their Peace through Business initiative, a training program designed to provide long-term business education to women entrepreneurs in Afghanistan and Rwanda. I find the program so inspiring, I’ve arranged to mentor one of the women in our New York office this summer. -JG
This basket features naturally dyed sisal coil-sewn over bundled sweetgrass. Hand-woven in Rwanda. Approximately 12" diameter and 3" high. Please note that because each basket is a unique work of art, variations in size and color will occur.

Betty Habimana currently owns and operates a combination garment trading and tailoring shop and an arts and crafts shop in Rwanda. She represents groups of business owners and cooperatives outside her country, bringing business back to Rwanda. Habimana continues to work with the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women (IEEW) and is active in planning the women’s business center in Rwanda.
