While exploring the remote villages of Turkey's Anatolia region, where folklore and tradition are woven into the fabric of daily life, we stumbled upon these vivid antique sacs and saddlebags. Originally part of a woman's dowry, each is colored with natural dyes and the wool is handspun on a "kirman" spindle. The intricate designs represent wishes for the future. I've transformed mine into lovely accent pillows, but they also may be used as wall hangings—adding Turkish flair to your home.
This antique saddlebag from Konya, Turkey, features wool on cotton. The unique patterns on this bag represent different wishes; wolf footprints for protection from evil, camel heads for wealth, tents for marriage. Approximately 85 years old. This item is one-of-a-kind. 46" x 19".
