While exploring the remote villages of Turkey's Anatolia region, where folklore and tradition are woven into the fabric of daily life, we stumbled upon these vivid antique sacs and saddlebags. Originally part of a woman's dowry, each is colored with natural dyes and the wool is handspun on a "kirman" spindle. The intricate designs represent wishes for the future. I've transformed mine into lovely accent pillows, but they also may be used as wall hangings—adding Turkish flair to your home.
This antique grape sac from Adana, Turkey, features wool and cotton. The unique patterns on this bag represent different wishes; triangle amulets for good luck, two triangles for couple to remain together, camel teeth for thinking twice and using common sense, swallows for good news. Approximately 65 years old. This item is one-of-a-kind. 42" x 32".
